Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion

“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes.” – 1 Corinthians 11:26

Mission:
The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist in the reverent distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass and, when necessary, bring the Eucharist to the sick and homebound.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass.
  • Demonstrating deep reverence for the Eucharist and ministering with humility and faith.
  • Bringing the Eucharist to the homebound, elderly, and those in hospitals or care facilities as needed.
  • Arriving early and participating fully in the Mass.

Requirements:

  • Must be a fully initiated Catholic (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist).
  • Living a faithful Catholic life in good standing with the Church.
  • Demonstrating reverence, responsibility, and commitment to this sacred ministry.
  • Willing to attend formation and renewal sessions to deepen their understanding of the Eucharist and the Church’s liturgical guidelines.

Training & Formation:

EMHCs undergo formation on the theology of the Eucharist, proper handling of the Blessed Sacrament, and pastoral care for the sick and homebound.
