Lectors (Readers of the Word)

“When the Scriptures are read in the Church, God Himself speaks to His people.” – General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM)


Mission:
Lectors have the sacred duty of proclaiming the Word of God during Mass. Through careful preparation and prayer, they serve as instruments of God, ensuring that His divine Word is clearly and meaningfully proclaimed to the assembly.
Responsibilities:

  • Proclaiming the First and Second Readings with clarity, reverence, and understanding.
  • Leading the Prayers of the Faithful, when assigned.
  • Preparing in advance through prayer and study of the readings.
  • Demonstrating proper posture, eye contact, and voice projection to enhance the congregation’s reception of the Word.

Requirements:

  • Must be a practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Comfortable speaking in public with a clear and strong voice.
  • Willing to commit to scheduled Masses and training sessions.

Training & Formation:

Lectors receive formation on Sacred Scripture, liturgical proclamation techniques, and spiritual
preparation to proclaim the Word effectively.
